ESSP Workshop: Advocacy and Influencing Policy

On Thursday, April 20th 5:45pm the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service is excited to present a panel discussion and interactive program with community activists and policy makers as part of our Engaged Service Scholars Program. Please join us for an evening to connect with advocates that share their experiences and skills when influencing policy makers at the local, state, and national levels of government. These activists will share their story of how they got involved with the issues they are working on and how they turned their passion into action. In addition they will share the processes, strategies, and steps they take to meet with lawmakers of all political affiliations to influence them to adopt policy that advances their cause.

Our panelists for the evening include:
Senator Jay Chaudhuri of NC Senate District 16
Madeline Goss – Transgender Activist & Advocate
Gerald Givens Jr. – 1st Vice President Raleigh-Apex NAACP
Lindsay Saunders – Grassroots Advocate & Volunteer Group Organizer

Program Schedule:
5:45pm: Light Refreshments in the Student Involvement Suite
6:00pm: Moderated Panel Discussions
6:30pm: Small Group Round Robin Discussions with Panelists
7:45pm: Program Concludes

Due to limited space and to provide an opportunity for small group discussions the program is capped at the first 55 participants that RSVP. If you were unable to RSVP before the form closed, you may arrive at the location prior to the start of the event to be added to the wait-list.
