University Recreation

The University Recreation Alternative Spring Break will be focusing on the social issue of underprivileged youth and recreation education. We are collaborating with the Recreation Department of Charleston, SC for this service learning trip. Charleston, SC has some under-served, low socioeconomic areas that cannot afford recreational services.

The mission of this agency is to preserve and enhance the quality of life in the citizens of the City of Charleston. The Recreation Department offers activities and events to meet their mission. They strive to provide quality services at the lowest possible cost to the community. Therefore, they rely on volunteers to help facilitate programs and camps, as well as maintenance of their facilities and playgrounds. Further, some areas cannot afford recreational services at all, so our goal is to plan a special recreation event for the community that is free of charge. The preparation for this event will be executed by the student leaders, which will be a great learning experience.
